Traveling in 2026 promises new adventures and challenges, and we’re here to ensure you’re prepared for both. I’m Sandra Booher from Two Travel Gurus, and along with Nancy (the other Guru), we’ve gathered our best tips to help you travel smarter and with greater confidence.
1. Master the Art of Packing

Efficient packing can simplify your trip and ensure you’re always prepared. It saves time, reduces stress, and helps you avoid unnecessary expenses by ensuring you have everything you need. By planning ahead and using strategic techniques, packing can become an enjoyable and organized part of your travel preparation.
Whether it’s creating a well-thought-out list, choosing the right luggage, or utilizing space-saving tools, these steps can transform packing from a chore into an essential component of a successful journey.
Build a Tailored Packing List
Create a checklist tailored to your destination and activities. Break it into categories like clothing, toiletries, electronics, and important documents. Use our Full Packing List as a starting point to avoid overpacking and make it your own.
Use Packing Cubes
Use compressible packing cubes to manage your clothing. I put tops in one large cube, pants in another large cube, underwear and socks in another small cube, PJs and under shirts for layering in another medium cube. You can label your cubes if you prefer to avoid remembering what is in each cube. Your clothes never leave your cubes until you are ready to wear them.
Pick Reliable Luggage
Invest in durable, lightweight luggage. Practical features such as expandable compartments and TSA-approved locks are must-haves. Nancy and I swear by our Amazon favorites: 28″, 24″, and 21″ suitcases, paired with matching backpacks. Explore options like Luggage Set like Nancy or Luggage Set like Sandra.
Focus on Versatile Clothing
Pack clothing that mixes and matches effortlessly to save space while maximizing outfit combinations. Opt for neutral colors and adaptable styles that can suit different occasions, from casual outings to evening events. Planning ahead ensures you are prepared for the varying climates of your destination, making it easier to transition between weather conditions without overpacking. Another huge tip is to purchase washing detergent SHEETS on Amazon. I typically use this for my underwear and undershirts.
This is packing made simple! Don’t make it harder than that. By choosing versatile pieces, you’ll not only reduce baggage weight but also simplify your daily outfit decisions, leaving you more time to enjoy your vacation stress-free.
Use Smart Travel Gadgets
Streamline your packing with these essentials to make your journey smoother and more efficient. From tools that keep you connected to gadgets that simplify laundry on the go, packing smart ensures you’re prepared for any situation.
By incorporating these essential items into your travel routine, you’ll save time, reduce stress, and create a more organized travel experience. Here are some of the must-have items that we recommend:
- Universal Adapters
- Money Belt
- Portable Chargers to keep devices powered
- Laundry Detergent Sheets
- AirTags for tracking items –
- Compression Socks for comfort during long trips
- Phone Lanyardnever lose your phone. You may have to search for similar type specific for your phone.
Pro Tip: Keep a scented garbage bag for freshening up clothes when washing isn’t an option.
2. Prioritize Health and Safety
Your well-being should always come first, and staying prepared ensures a safer, healthier journey. Thinking ahead can help you adapt to various climates and make your vacation stress-free. By anticipating your destination’s weather and packing accordingly, you’ll feel more confident and ready to enjoy every moment of your trip without unnecessary worries.
- For cold, rainy climates, pack essentials like waterproof comfortable boots, a small umbrella or poncho, warm layers, gloves, hand warmers, and scarves.
- Hot, rainy climates call for waterproof shoes, sunscreen, and lightweight ponchos or umbrellas.
Secure Comprehensive Travel Insurance
Travel insurance is an essential safeguard for any trip, providing protection for more than just cancellations. It’s your safety net in case of medical emergencies, accidents, or even more serious situations like death abroad.
Having sufficient coverage ensures you can be transported back home safely, whether it’s through medical evacuation or other necessary arrangements. Additionally, travel insurance offers peace of mind for lost belongings and other unexpected events, allowing you to focus on enjoying your journey with confidence.
3. Maximize Technology for Smooth Travels
In today’s digital age, technology can be your best travel companion, boosting your confidence and making navigation easier.
DROP PINS – Learn how to drop pins on navigation apps like Google Maps to mark key locations, such as your hotel, restaurants, or meeting points. Pins are invaluable for quickly finding your way back or sharing locations with others in your group.
TRACKING SOFTWARE – Using tracking software allows you to stay connected with fellow travelers, ensuring you can locate each other in case of emergencies or simply to meet up without the hassle of figuring out your whereabouts.
Embracing these technological tools makes exploring new places stress-free and enhances your overall travel experience.
Improve Group Communication
Stay connected with language apps like Google Translate and Duolingo to navigate foreign destinations with ease.
For group trips, use buddy tracking apps to keep everyone linked and safe. Setting up a group text ensures your group stays connected through airports, excursions, and the entire trip, providing a sense of security and seamless communication. Whether coordinating meetups or sharing updates, staying connected as a group enhances the overall travel experience.
Secure Your Essentials
Money belts are an excellent way to safeguard cash and documents. The concept is to keep all your money and passport in your money belt and put only the money you think you will use for the day for your purse. The only time your passport is in your purse is when you are going through the airport or if an excursion requires it (you will know in advance).
Benefit from Travel Credit Cards
Cards with no foreign transaction fees and travel rewards can save you money while enhancing your journey. Always bring two credit cards for added security and flexibility.
Keep in mind that not all cards are widely accepted; for example, American Express and Discover may have limited acceptance in some countries. Having a backup ensures you’re covered in case one card doesn’t work or is misplaced, giving you peace of mind while traveling.
5. Stay Connected on the Go
Choose the Right Internet Plan
Reliable connectivity is a must for modern travel. Avoid relying on cheap internet plans that promise the world but leave you disconnected when you arrive at your destination. Instead, visit your provider and inquire about their international plan.
LAND – Major providers like Verizon offer plans ONLY WHEN YOU USE IT for $10 per day, and AT&T charges $12 per day. If you’re with a different provider, check their international options to ensure you stay connected.
CRUISE – For cruise travelers, ask about a cruise-specific package, as it’s often more affordable than purchasing internet onboard. This plan recognizes when you are on land and when you are on the boat and flips from the land to the cruise plan. This allows you to keep up with your businesses and family members back home with minimal costs per day. If you use the service then you are charged a one time day charge and if you don’t, no charges are accessed.
Staying connected allows you to easily communicate with your group, access essential travel tools, and enjoy a hassle-free travel experience.
Digitize Important Documents
Store digital copies of your passport, visa, and insurance on secure platforms. These backups can be lifesavers.
6. Plan for a Smooth Post-Travel Transition
Ease the return-to-home blues by preparing ahead.
