Thank you for choosing to travel with us and allowing us to guide you along this adventure! From the moment you step out your door, we strive to provide a comprehensive, stress-free, and unforgettable travel experience. To that end, the following features are included with your tour: motor coach transportation, accommodations, hotel luggage handling (porterage), select meals, admission to attractions as outlined in your itinerary, and gratuities for servers of included meals as outlined in your itinerary, bellmen, and door attendants.
At the beginning of your tour, your Tour Manager will distribute a personal radio and headset. You should wear them on sightseeing tours to make sure you can hear your guides clearly at all times. Please bring them with you every day. Your Tour Manager will collect them at the very end of your tour, typically on your last evening. You are responsible for returning these devices and will be charged a replacement fee should you fail to do so.
If you chose to purchase a land-only tour package, you have opted to purchase your own airline tickets to and from home. In this case, we ask that you keep a few important factors in mind when booking your round-trip flights:
1) Please make sure your round-trip flights work with your tour itinerary. There may be scheduled activities on these days.
2) You must provide us with your flight schedules for the entire tour upon final payment. This ensures that we can arrange any other services you may have purchased from us, including hotel transfers, and that your Tour Manager will know when to expect your arrival. This also allows us to maintain contact with you in case of an emergency.
If you have chosen our air-inclusive tour package, you have opted that we take care of all your air travels from your home to the destination and back. This also includes any inter-flights from city to city within the tour package if applicable. We ask that you keep the following in mind:
1) In order to comply with Homeland Security’s “Secure Flight” mandate, you must provide full name (including middle name or middle initial, if applicable), as it appears on your valid, non-expired, government issued photo ID that you will show at the airport. The name on your airline ticket must be an exact match to this ID, or you may be prevented from boarding the aircraft.
2) If you are a member of a participating frequent flyer program, make sure to provide the number when you book your trip and retain the copy of your ticket and boarding pass so you will receive proper credit for your mileage. Please note that some air tickets are not eligible for mileage accrual.
3) Whenever possible, we will add charges for air departure taxes to your invoice. Some international arrival and departure fees are not included in your air ticket and must be paid by you during the tour in the local currency.
Your comfort is important to us. With that in mind, we charter coaches that are temperature-controlled.
While some coaches may have a toilet facility, it is for emergency use since local laws require the vehicle to stop for safety reasons. Rest assured that frequent stops will be made along the touring route for your comfort and convenience.
Please note, outlets for charging devices may not be available on the coach. Therefore, if you anticipate using electronic devices, we recommend bringing portable power banks.
Change your seat, change your view! At least once a day, the Tour Manager will ask all travelers to change seats. This ensures that every traveler has an opportunity to enjoy a variety of views as they travel and a chance to get to know each other better. Depending on availability, single travelers may be seated next to another traveler. In fairness to all, there will be no exceptions to this policy.
In the European Union, the law states all travelers must wear a seat belt in all vehicles whenever one is available. Most of the motor coaches we use will have them, so if you see one, be sure to wear it. Failure to comply could result in a personal fine of up to €750 Euro. Please be aware that we will not issue refunds to travelers fined for non-compliance. While on tour, your Tour Manager will remind you to buckle up.
At the time of booking, you will be asked what type of room you would like.
A double room has either one large bed or two smaller ones. Double rooms are perfect for couples or if you’re travelling with a companion and wish to share a room. There are plenty of double rooms available on our tours.
A single or solo room has only one bed and may be smaller in size. These rooms are first come, first-served, as most properties have only a limited number of these rooms available.
We will forward your request to the hotel and do our best to accommodate your needs; however, please know that we cannot make any guarantees.
In certain countries, the hotel rooms may not be as large as standard hotel rooms in your home country due to the fact that hotels may be in historical buildings. In some hotels, the air-conditioning and heating systems may be centrally-controlled and only operate seasonally. It is also important to note that not all hotels have AC, and those that do may not cool to the degree that you are used to at home.
Here are a few details to keep in mind:
Check-in times are set by individual hotels and can vary, but most hotels offer afternoon check-ins. Depending on your arrival time, you may have to wait before you can get into your room. Some hotels may be willing to store your luggage in a secure location until your room is ready. In these instances, the hotel will not be responsible for lost or stolen items and there may be a charge for this service.
Please observe check-out times at all properties. Hotels designate these as well.
Some hotels require a credit card imprint or your passport information upon check-in in order to activate telephones in the rooms and for potential incidental charges. Most hotels charge an access fee for using phones in hotel rooms. Please check with the front desk personnel at each hotel for specific policies. You will be responsible for all incidental fees occurred during your stay, and these must be paid at time of check-out.
Hotel membership programs are not applicable.
All of the hotels we use are equipped with air conditioning and heat. However, in an effort to be more energy efficient, European governments regulate the specific time of year when hotels can turn on their air conditioning and heating systems. This means that during the spring and fall, hotels will not always have their air conditioners and heaters turned on. Air conditioning is only available between May 15 and September 15. Heating can only be turned on between November 1 and March 31.
Hotel rooms in this region are generally smaller than average, as most hotels are renovated historic buildings which don’t offer a lot of space.
Please be aware that many standard hotel rooms do not have walk-in showers, as the rooms will often have a combination bathtub/shower. Please also note that bathtubs in this region tend to have much taller sides requiring agility to climb in and out. Usually bathtubs are equipped with safety handles, however this cannot be guaranteed, and you may consider packing a grab bar for travel.
While in Paris, you have the choice between two activities.
Your first choice is to gain an overview of the French capital during a panoramic bus tour. Accompanied by a local guide, take in the most iconic landmarks of Paris, including the Arc de Triomphe and the Champs-Elysees. Your panoramic tour is topped off with a taste of local culture by savoring delicious macarons.
The Activity Level of this choice is a level 2.
This is a panoramic and walking tour of Paris.
Your second choice is to join a local expert and travel like a Parisian as you hop on Le Métro bound for the hilltop neighborhood of Montmartre and its iconic Sacré-Cœur basilica. Explore the winding streets, home to classical painters and cultural provocateurs, and learn the history of this artistic village in the heart of Paris and enjoy some time at a local cafe.
The Activity Level of this choice is a level 3.
Travelers should be able to walk up and down stairs. Keep in mind, Montmartre is a hilly district.
One of the ways we encourage you to make your journey your own is with Choice on Tour, letting you decide how to experience a destination or site based on your unique interests.
It’s your choice! Included in your itinerary, there may be a day, or days, featuring a choice of two (or more) activities during a designated time. You may have selected your preferred option(s) when booking your tour. In most cases, your selection may be made upon arriving on tour and discussing it with your Tour Manager. If no selection is made during the booking process, the default option is assumed.
Peace of mind for our travelers is our number one priority. When you’re on tour with us, your only thoughts should be to immerse yourself in creating lifelong memories. Your Tour Manager is a destination expert on the people, places, history, and culture and ensures that you will have the best experience with us. Please utilize your Tour Manager’s expertise for any concerns or questions you may have while on tour.
Wi-Fi access has improved, with free or cheap internet available in many public spaces. Some restaurants, cafes, and hotels offer complimentary Wi-Fi, though at times it may not reach rooms in hotels. Wi-Fi may not be available onboard motorcoaches or other modes of transportation used during your tour.
The natural wonders of our planet are awe-inspiring. To ensure their beauty can be enjoyed for generations, we are committed to reducing single-use plastics on our tours and in our offices. On tours in this region, where the tap water is safe to drink, we encourage you to bring a reusable filter water bottle. Your Tour Manager will direct you to bottle refill stations throughout each day. By bringing your own bottle, you will reduce plastic waste and help to preserve the environment.
Thank you for helping us make the world a better place through travel and supporting sustainability!
You’re in for a treat as you explore the country that is so famous for its delicious food.
Traveling to France offers a delightful journey into a culinary world that is distinctively different from what you might be accustomed to. French cuisine is renowned for its emphasis on fresh, high-quality ingredients, meticulous preparation, and elegant presentation. French meals are typically enjoyed at a leisurely pace, allowing diners to savor each bite and appreciate the artistry behind the dishes. From the rich, buttery pastries of Paris to the hearty, rustic fare of Provence, every region in France boasts its own unique culinary traditions. Expect to encounter a variety of flavors, cooking techniques, and dining customs that reflect the deep-rooted history and passion for food that is quintessentially French.
Embrace the opportunity to explore local markets, dine in charming bistros, and perhaps even take a cooking class to truly immerse yourself in the French gastronomic experience.
Normandy’s cuisine is rich and diverse, reflecting its coastal and agricultural heritage. Here are some must-try dishes:
Camembert: This world-famous cheese is creamy and has a bloomy rind.
Marmite Dieppoise: A seafood stew made with fish, mussels, and shrimp in a creamy cider broth.
Omelette de la Mère Poulard: A fluffy omelette from Mont Saint-Michel, known for its unique preparation method.
Agneau de pré-salé: Meadow-salted lamb, naturally salted by grazing on fields permeated by ocean water.
Trou Normand: Apple sorbet topped with Calvados, a local apple brandy, often served between courses.
The Loire Valley is known for its elegant cuisine and fine wines. Some highlights include:
Tarte Tatin: An upside-down apple tart with caramelized apples.
Beurre Blanc Sauce: A buttery sauce made with white wine and shallots, perfect for fish.
Rillettes: A type of pâté made from pork, slow-cooked and spreadable.
Goat Cheese: Varieties like Sainte-Maure-de-Touraine and Valençay are local favorites.
Freshwater Fish: Pike-perch served with beurre blanc sauce is a regional specialty.
Paris offers a blend of traditional and modern French cuisine. Here are some iconic dishes:
Croissants and Baguettes: Flaky, buttery pastries and crusty bread are staples.
Boeuf Bourguignon: A rich beef stew braised in red wine, often Burgundy.
Escargot: Snails cooked in garlic butter, a quintessential French delicacy.
Foie Gras: Duck or goose liver, often served as a pâté.
Cassoulet: A hearty stew of beans, sausage, and meats like pork and duck.
In France, wine is not just a beverage but a cultural experience, enhancing the flavors of food and adding to the overall dining experience. In Normandy, while the region is more famous for its ciders and Calvados, it does have one notable vineyard, Les Arpents du Soleil, producing red and white wines from grape varieties like Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The Loire Valley is renowned for its elegant wines, including Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, and Cabernet Franc, which pair beautifully with local dishes like Tarte Tatin and freshwater fish. Paris, although not a wine-producing region, serves as a gateway to nearby wine regions such as Champagne and Burgundy, offering a sophisticated selection of wines that complement classic Parisian cuisine like Boeuf Bourguignon and Escargot.
The food people eat is a window into their history, traditions, and values, and sharing food brings people together. One of the many wonderful aspects of travel is to experience as much of the regional cuisine as possible. Your tour includes many meals as outlined on your itinerary. Our team has carefully chosen restaurants that feature local ingredients and offer regional flavors.
For meals that are not included in your itinerary, your Tour Manager will be happy to recommend eateries and local businesses that best fit your taste and needs.
The average price for meals in France ranges from 5 to 15 US Dollars for breakfast, 20 to 30 US Dollars for lunch and 30 to 45 US Dollars for dinner.
Gratuities are included in the bill. If you wish to give an additional tip, simply round up to the nearest whole figure and hand the money directly to the server. Do not leave a gratuity on the table.
Dinner in France usually begins around 7:00 p.m. at the earliest.
Please let your Tour Manager know of any food allergies or dietary needs you may have at the beginning or your tour.
One of the best parts of traveling is coming back home with souvenirs that reflect the place you’ve just been.
France is a great place for shopping. It offers its own distinct crafts and local souvenirs that range from traditional to trendy! From the luxury shops of Paris to the outdoor regional markets of Provence, a delightful array of souvenirs is at your fingertips.
Popular items to look for in France are ceramics, the trendiest clothing, fashion accessories, wine and food items.
In Provence, table and home linens are renowned, as are goods made from the lavender and olive oil which are quite prevalent in this region.
Shops are closed on Sundays; in smaller towns they may also be closed other days of the week between 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.
If you purchase DVDs or other electronic equipment, check that it is compatible with your PC or other home equipment.
Dining in France is a leisurely affair, with set meal times for lunch (12-2 p.m.) and dinner (7-9 p.m.), and it’s customary to have coffee after meals rather than during.
Greetings are important; always say “Bonjour” or “Bonsoir” when entering shops or meeting someone, and use formal titles like Monsieur, Madame, or Mademoiselle.
Handshakes are common in professional settings, while friends often greet with “la bise” (kissing on both cheeks). Customer service is more reserved, and you may need to signal for the check when dining out. Learning basic French phrases such as “Bonjour,” “Merci,” and “S’il vous plaît” is appreciated.
Wine is a big part of French culture and cuisine. Usually served with meals, many people enjoy discussing the flavor of the wine and what they think of it.
Communication from the French is very direct, and is often seen as rude by tourists, but the French see it as diplomatic and polite.
Should you have some extra time before your tour begins, you’ll find plenty to do in Versailles, a town born from the will of King Louis XIV! When you first arrive, you’ll only have eyes for the Palace of Versailles, but the town – bisected by the Avenue de Paris, also known as the widest avenue in France – hides many other treasures. Take a tour of Versailles and be pleasantly surprised.
Other suggestions would be the Antiquarian district: next to the palace, the Notre Dame market, and the Lambinet museum, every antique lover and even the amateurs will enjoy a walk in this historic area.
Also, the Saint-Louis area is located to the south and divided into two historical parts: the Old Versailles and Saint Louis Area strictly speaking. If it’s the season, you may want to book a show at the Equestrian Academy of Versailles or within the Palace visit the Queen’s Hamlet, a bucolic landscaping of the Trianon gardens where the Hameau de la Reine is an integral part of the Domaine de Marie-Antoinette. Timeless, far from the tumult of the Palace, this place exalts the imagination.
Due to varied flight schedules and arrival times of our travelers, there are no scheduled activities prior to dinner on arrival day. Should your flight schedule allow for an early arrival, enjoy this opportunity for some independent exploration.
If you are staying post tour, your Tour Manager will be available to offer suggestions for your additional time in the area.
The highest elevation encountered on this tour is 1,000 feet/305 meters.
Our tours are non-smoking throughout. If you require a smoking room, please let your Client Care agent know when you book your tour. Please note, we cannot guarantee your request as many hotels prohibit smoking in rooms and on the property.
Please be mindful of other locations where smoking is not allowed. These include the motor coach, at dining venues, and any other restricted areas on tour. Travelers are responsible for any fines they incur for failing to comply with smoking regulations.
Included in your tour documents bundle is your personalized name tag. We ask that you put this on before your first gathered event and wear it throughout your tour. This helps your fellow travelers get to know you and for your Tour Manager to better identify you in large groups.
Please Note
Economy air rate and schedule are applicable for groups of 10 or more traveling on the same flights and dates.
The overall activity level of this tour is a level 3. This means you’re an on-the-go traveler. You don’t want to miss a thing, so walking and standing for longer periods of time (2-3 hours) isn’t a big deal. A moderately paced two-and-a-half-hour walking tour, covering several miles, hills, and uneven surfaces, is no problem for you. Walking four miles over the course of a day is very doable, as is climbing into and out of various modes of transportation (tuk-tuk, cable car, zodiac, etc.). You can climb three flights of stairs easily and handle altitudes between 6,000 and 9,000 feet. Expect some longer days with early mornings or late nights balanced with free time to recharge or set out on your own adventure. This level is not a fit for travelers who require mobility assistance devices.
Travel with an average of 37 people (maximum of 44).
Some of the most unique sightseeing can mean accessing locations that restrict motor coaches, especially in historic areas such as Le Mont St. Michel, Saint-Malo, and the villages of Chinon and Amboise. For your comfort, we recommend bringing walking shoes. If you have difficulty walking, you may not be able to access some of these areas and may want to consider an alternate tour with us. Our travel counselors can provide additional information or assistance to help you determine the perfect tour for you.
***Access to Mont St. Michel is via a shuttle bus requiring the ability to stand for the duration of the ride (approximately 10 minutes each way). The shuttle drops off 0.2 miles (350 meters) from the village walls. From that point, the visit is entirely on foot. Visiting the old village requires the ability to navigate cobblestone streets and steep inclines (between 8% and 15%). There are no handrails in the village streets. The visit to the Abbey requires the ability to climb up to 350 steps: around 200 are outdoors (to reach the top of the Grande Rue), then 150 are inside the Abbey. The steps range in height between 7.5 and 11 inches (19 to 28 cm). There are no elevators or escalators at Mont St. Michel.
If you require any special assistance while on tour, please make us aware at time of reservation so the necessary request form can be sent to your attention.
Days of features are interchangeable.
****Paradis Latin cabaret show may be considered unsuitable for children – consult your Tour Manager.
Most shops in smaller towns are closed on Sundays and on national/religious holidays.
Outdoor markets may not be available in case of adverse weather conditions or local holidays.
**The musical fountain show is available on Saturdays and Sundays between early April and late October. Depending on the season, there are different experiences. Please consult your Tour Manager while on tour as the exact starting date changes yearly depending on weather conditions and local holidays. If your stay is between the end of June to early September, a Night Visit with Fireworks Show (Les Grandes Eaux Nocturnes) may occur. If you are interested, we encourage you to consult the official Versailles site and program and buy the tickets in advance.
*Monet’s Gardens in Giverny are open from April to October. If you are traveling at a different time of the year, you will visit Rouen instead.
